“Health is wealth”, a well known phrase is not new to us. Health being one of the most concerned matters of today’s busy and hectic life, people are seeking a healthy way of living and yoga is where the seek ends.
Yoga is a form of physical exercise and meditation. It is a real source to lead a well-knit life. It is a systematic and methodical process to control and develop the mind and body to attain good health, balance of mind and self-relaxation.

Yoga is gaining immense popularity due to the short term as well as long term benefits that it provides. The benefits of yoga provide both gratification and lasting transformation. The main aim of yoga is to attain physical and mental nourishment through relaxation.

The students of St. Mary’s College of Teacher Education, Shillong are priviledged to have a session of yoga in the College on 11/02/2017. The resource person for the session was Swati Bhatacharjee, a practising lawyer and a passionate practitioner of yoga. The session started with a prayer and it was followed by warm-up exercises and some basic yoga exercises were performed by the students ending it with meditation and relaxation. Students interacted with the resource person regarding the benefits of yoga with respect to particular illnesses.

This session was very beneficial for us students as we came to know that ‘sparing 10 minutes for yoga daily could make our life better’. The students were motivated to start yoga and as we are to be teachers we can impart this knowledge to our future students and promote healthy living.
